Let's all have a healthy Ramdan

Let's all have a healthy Shehrullah il Moazzam

Sharing answers for frequently asked questions concerning this Shehrullah

1. Is it ok to skip Sihori or just have a fruit and water?

A good balanced Sihori is important for keeping your energy levels high throughout the day. Sihori should have-
Fiber- Rotis, oats, sprouts and fruits are source of fiber. Have one of these as a part of your Sihori.
Proteins- Egg,dals, milk or dahi and nuts shall keep metabolism high and help in tissue repair.
Potassium- Dahi, banana and other fruits rich in potassium shall help prevent thirst throughout the day. Include a small portion of them if possible.

2. How to keep immunity high while I fast?

Our body cells get time to repair themselves and hence help us boost immunity while we are in the fasting phase, provided our building phase (post iftaar) is kept healthy.

3. I get migraines, acidity and headaches during Roza. How should I manage it?

Your body start throwing out toxins during the first few days while we fast. Hence its completely normal to get these symptoms.
Keep your meals light for dinner, drink 2-2.5 litres of water daily and sleep for a good 7-8 hours till your body successfully adapts to the new routine.
You shall follow these few tips to deal with the symptoms.
#Steam inhalation with eucalyptus or peppermint oil at bedtime.
#Epsom salt bath
#Deep breathing shall help during roza.
# Infused water with lemon, fennel seeds and jeera(for acidity)

4. I get constipated in Ramadan. How should I manage this?

Constipation is common when you are either low in water or fiber or both. Hence, have a portion of raw vegetables(cucumber, carrot, beetroot), soaked raisins, prunes or just add a tsp of sabza seeds to water.
For water intake drink- Gol paani, coconut water, lemon water or infused water.
If you feel you can not consume a good amount of water then go low with teas and coffee as it will dehydrate your further.
Chronically constipated people (not passing stools for more than 2 days) shall have a tsp of warm cold pressed coconut oil or homemade ghee in the morning and Psyllium husk(isabgol) as bedtime.
Avoid taking any medications for the same unless non of these work.

5. I am confused about what to cook daily?

Well, its the first time for most of us to cook dinners during Ramadan. As it should not consume alot of our time so that we can give enough time for ibadat,we shall keep it simple like khichdi with palida or kadhi, dal rice, chicken and rice/roti, mixed vegetable and mutton pulav and broths for dinner. You can prepare fancy meals once a week for your loved ones.
For sweet cravings- mithaas like thuli with jaggery, malida, gol papdi, kalamra, homemade aam ras are ideal. Avoid fancy cooking due to limited supplies all over the world.

6. I do not lose weight even if I fast?

Do not expect too much of weight loss during Ramadan as your metabolism is slow and would not advice to do high intensity exercises. If following healthy Sihori and post iftaar routine, one may definitely lose inches. Do not get disappointed if you jump back to the same weight on the day of eid. Your scale was showing low weight during Ramadan due to empty stomach. The ideal loss of fats is measured in inches. Be happy if your clothes are getting lose.

7. I ate a heavy iftaar/dinner,what should I do in order to balance?

Firstly stay up for a while, may be, pray bihori so that your body gets enough time to metabolize the meal.
Secondly, you can have fruits and  nuts for Sihori the next day.
Thirdly, make sure you do not do this continuously and your next day should be a lighter and an easily digestible iftaar.

8. Is it ok to have a Sihori immediately after bihori?

Well, yes, if you feel you can manage the day without an hesitations than go ahead. Make sure your water intake and meals are not compromised. Otherwise it's a good idea to have an uninterrupted sleep.

9. I tend to feel sleepy all throughout the day while I do roza.

Yes, that's common as your brain cells needs glucose supply to stay active. Firstly check your sihori intake and secondly, just open your window or balcony, breathe in some fresh air and get involved in some activity, like tilawat or hifzul quran, tasbeeh.
A quick few minutes of spot jog, skipping or jumping jacks will give a jerk to your metabolism and keep you up for several hours. Try it!

10. I really want to stay healthy but I get severe junk cravings post iftaar.

Try looking for alternatives like grilled, steamed or stir fried. You can use a variety of spices to satisfy your taste buds. For instance, kokum, amchur, imli, lemon and jaljeera can be a nice treat to your taste buds and even better for your gut.
Eat mindfully, look for healthy alternatives, google is flooded with recipes.
Sugar and fried attracts more! Eat once and you will crave for more.
Hence portion control, chew well and eat slow.

Dont miss on Gratitude towards the naemat that Aqa Moula TUS  has bestowed on us!

May you have a healthy and safe Ramadan. Stay home and pray more!

Shehrullah Mubarak!

Sujood The Way it should be done

I noticed many of us go to Ruku or Sujood and get up so fast, some don’t even take the time to say "Subhana Rabi Al Azeem e Wabe Hamd" 3 times…and say it only once!

Well, I have good news for you today… I have news that will make you today onwards go to Ruku or Sujood with a different feeling and different timing.

The Prophet Peace be upon him said: When a slave stands and prays, all his sins are brought and placed on his head and shoulders. Every time he bows or prostrates, some of them fall from him.” SubhanAllah!

So from now on when you stand up to pray, imagine all your sins being placed on your head and shoulders and when you go to Ruku and Sujood, stay longer to lose as many as you can and picture them falling down and away from you. Understand the purpose of praying… this will help you concentrate.

When you go to the position of Ruku, feel and tell Allah with your heart that you will never kneel to anyone but him and picture those sins falling down.

And when you say "Sami'Allahu liman hamidah" (Allah hears who thanks Him) and you say "Rabbana lakal Hamd" (Thanks to you my Lord) you are thanking Him for honoring you and making you stand straight not like the other creatures who walk on four with their back bent. Thank Him for making you able to move and pray.

When you go to the first Sajdah (you put your head down on the floor) you are representing the earth which you came from and when you get up.after the first Sajdah you are representing the first time He created you from the earth.

When you go on the second Sajdah again on the ground, you are representing when you die and you go back to the ground and when you get up the second time you are representing the second time when Allah will bring you back from the dead on the Day of Judgment, therefore, concentrate with every movement and feel it.

Make a lot of du'a in Sujood and remember du'a is ibadat and Allah loves those who ask Him…ask Him and beg Him… complain to Him… you are better off complaining to Him than to humans….He will never betray you, He will never let you down, He will never look down on you and He is the only one who can answer your needs with your head held high.

Do you know the reason you say "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is great) every time you move in a prayer?
It’s a reminder that Allah is greater than anything you might be thinking about from this world. So be honest when you say "Allahu Akbar" and remember He is greater than anything that is occupying your mind while you pray.

Do you know when you stand up to pray and say "Allahu Akbar", Allah stands before you and the minute your mind goes wondering on silly things in this life, Allah turns His face away from you and says (Is there something better than me taking you away from me?)

SubhanAllah, how blessed are we to have Allah meet us and let us stand before Him 5 times a day, to listen to us and to our problems and to grant us our wishes and forgives us for our sins every day. You say "Allahu Akbar and He is there, you don’t need to stand in front of His door for hours or take an appointment or meet a mediator or a secretary, how generous is He?

Hopefully we will all from today pray differently and enjoy our prayers like never before Insha Allah. Yaa Allah taqabbal salaatana... Ya Allah accept our Salah, grant us the ability to pray with khushu, with full concentration, devotion, and in the correct manner. Aameen Aameen Aameen!
A simple beautiful way for our sins to be forgiven.

~ don't forget to put this into practice which will only add to Khushu in our Salah.

IMAM HUSSAIN JOURNEY FROM MAKKAH TO KARBALA

THE ROUTE OF IMAM HUSSAIN FROM MAKKAH TO KARBALA
and the 14 stopovers in the journey.
Imam, after leaving Madina in the month of Rajab, stayed in Makka for about 5 months. It was in the month of Zilhijja 60 Hijri when he noticed that there were Yazid's soldiers in Makka in the garb of Ahram to kill the Imam inside the Masjidul Haram. Imam changed the rituals of Hajj into Umra and decided to leave Makka. The date was 8th of Zilhijja 60 Hijri. When people saw the Imam leaving before completing the Hajj they began to ask questions as to why he was leaving in such a hurry. Some doubted his motives, saying that he might be leaving Makka for Iraq to confront Yazid and take power into his hands. To quell these doubts he left a letter with his brother Muhammad El-Hanafiya which clearly states his purpose of leaving Makka.
He wrote in the letter, "I have not come out to stir emotions, to play with discontentment, to provoke dissension or to spread oppression. I wish to bring the Umma back to the path of Amr-bil-Ma'arouf and Nahyi Unil Munker. I wish to bring them back to the path of my grandfather the Messenger of Allah and of my father Ali Ibne Abi Talib".
The momentous journey of Imam Hussain (AS) begins from Makka towards an unknown destination which eventually ended at Karbala.

The journey which began from Makka on the 8th of Zilhijja 60 Hijri ended in Karbala on 2nd of Muharram 61 Hijiri and took about 22 days in all. Imam stopped at 14 places on his way to Karbala. He met various people and delivered various sermons. What the Imam talked about to these people he met and said in his sermons at various places reflects the true motives he had in his mind. The names of these places Imam passed were mentioned in history books but their exact locations were not traceable in modern geographical maps. After searching in the archives of the British Museum Library a map of 9th Century Hijri was found in which all these names were clearly shown.

After leaving Makkah there were 14 places mentioned in history books where Imam either stayed or met people or gave sermons.

1. Saffah:
Here Imam met Farazzdaq the poet whom Imam asked about conditions in Kufa. He said, ' He said, 'People's hearts were with you but their swords were against you.' Imam replied, 'Allah does what he wishes. Ileave it to him who proposes the just cause.

2. Dhat-el-Irq:
Here Imam's cousin Abdullah Ibne Jafar brought his two sons Auwn and Mohammed to their mother Hazrat Zainab and to help the imam. He tried to persuade the Imam to return to Madina but Imam replied, 'my destiny is in the hands of Allah.'

3. Batn-er-Rumma:
Imam sent a letter to Kufa with Qais bin Mashir, met Abdullah bin Mutee who came from Iraq. When he heard of Imam's intention, he tried to stop him. He said Kufans were not faithful and could not be trusted. But Imam continued his journey.

4. Zurud:
Imam met Zohair Ibne Qain. Zohair was not among the followers of Ahlulbait. But when Imam told him of the purpose of his journey Zohair gave all his possesions to his wife, told her to go home and said that he wished to be martyred with the Imam.

5. Zabala:
Imam learnt from two tribesmen coming from Kufa of the death of Hazrat Muslim. Imam said, 'Innan Lillahe wa Inna Elaihe Rajeoon. Indallah-Nahtasib Anfusana.' 'We are for Allah and we shall return to Him who surely accouts for our sacrifices. Asadi Tribesmen tried to dissuade the Imam from his journey but he persisted. Here Imam told his companions the news of the death of Muslim and Hani and that people in Kufa were not prepared to be their helpers. Imam said, 'Those who want to depart leave now.' Hoards of various tribesmen who had followed the Imam in the hope of collecting the booty realised their false hopes and scattered to their own homes. Only 50 odd people remained

 6. Batn-e-Aqeeq:
Imam met a man from the Tribe of Akrama who told him that Kufa was no more a friendly town and was now surrounded by Yazid's army. No one could get in or out of the town. But the Imam carried on.

7. Sorat: Imam stayed the night here and in the morning ordered his companions to take as much water as they can.

8. Sharaf:
While the Imam was passing from this place, one of his companions shouted that he could see the approach of an army. Imam asked for a safe place, preferably a mountain behind them. A guide took them to the nearest mountain.

9. Zuhasm:
It was here that Imam met Hurr's army of 1000 men. They wre thirsty so Imam ordered his men to give them water. Imam himself helped several thirsty soldiers to drink. Even animals were given water to drink. Zohr prayers were led by the Imam and all followed him including Hurr's soldiers. Here Imam told hurr about many letters from Kufa. He said, 'O People of Kufa, you sent me your delegations and wrote me letters that you had no Imam and that I should come to unite you and lead you in the way of Allah. You wrote that we Ahlulbait are more qualified to govern your affairs than those who claim things to which they have no right and act unjustly and wrongly. But if you have changed your mind, have become ignorant of our Rights and have forgotten your promises, I shall turn back. But he was denied to turn back by Hurr's army and was lead to by-pass Kufa.

10. Baiza:
Imam reached Baiza the next day and delivered one of his most famous sermons. 'O People, the Prophet has said that if a man sees a tyrannical ruler transgressing against Allah and the Prophet and oppressing people but does nothing by word or action to change the situation then it will be just for Allah to place him where he deservingly belongs. Do you not see to what low level the affairs have come down... Do you not observe that truth has not adhered to and falsehood has no limit. And as for me, I look upon death as but a means of attaining martyrdom and I consider life among transgressors as nothing but an agony and an affliction.'

11. Uzaibul Hajanat:
Here Imam stayed away from the army of Hurr and met Trimmah bin Adi. After having learnt about the Kufan abandonment of his envoy it was clear that he had no hope of support or even survival in Kufa. Nevertheless he refused an offer of safety, if not success extended to him. Trimmah pleaded to him to accept the offer of 20,000 trained men of his tribe to help him if he wanted to go to Kufa or he could retire to the mountains and safety. Imam replied to Ibne Adi, 'Allah bless you and your people. I cannot go from my word. Things are destined. It is clear from this reply that he was fully aware of the dangers he would face and that he had a certain strategy and plan in mind to bring about a revolution in the conscience of the Muslim Ummah. He did not try to mobilise military support which he could easily have done in Hejaz nor did he try to exploit whatever physical strength was available to him.

12. Qasr-e-Bani Makatil:
It was evident here that Kufa was no more his destination. As Hurr did not want to leave him, he by-passed Kufa and took a new route. Resting in the afternoon he uttered 'Inna Lillah.' His 18 years old son Ali Akber approached him and enquired. Imam said that in his sleep he had heard someone saying that these people were going to their deaths. Ali Akber asked, 'Are we not on the Right path. Death meant nothing to them. Death of this kind transforms into the glory of martyrdom.

13. Nainawa:
At this place a messenger of Ibne Zaid brought a message for Hurr not to leave the Imam. The battered caravan passed through Ghaziriya to a place called Karbala. Imam sighed, asked for the name of the place. Someone said Kerbala. Imam said, yes, this is the place of Kerbin-wa-bala. (a place of pain and torture.) Let us stop here for we have arrived at our destination. This is the place of our Martyrdom. This is Karbala.
